Jing C. Liu

Piano

Pianist Ms.Liu is a native of Tianjin, China. She is pursuing a DMA degree in piano performance at the University of Connecticut, studying with Dr. Angelina Gadeliya.

Most recently, Ms. Liu won the Grand Prize at New York International Classical Music Competition, First Place at the 2021 Chopin Malaysia International Competition, Global Outstanding Chinese Artist International Piano Competition (2021), Second Prize at the 2021 William Knabe International Piano Competition, Gold Prize of the WPTA Second Finland International Piano Competition (Piano Solo & Piano Duo Division, 2020), Fifth Place in the 2020 Conero International Piano Competition, and the Distinction Award at the 2020 Vienna International Music Competition. Highlights in the 2021 season also included the Third Prize in the "2020 Paderewski International Piano Competition in Connecticut", "Distinction Award" at the 2020 2nd Vienna International Music Competition, as well as the First Prize at the 2019 North International Music Competition in Sweden, 19th London Grand Prize Virtuoso Competition in the UK, and the Third prize winner of 2018 III Future Star International Piano Competition in Connecticut, USA.   

In 2021, Ms. Liu was featured as a GOCAA Artist at the Global Outstanding Chinese Artist Association. She presented Solo Recitals at Sino TV, the GOCAA Artist Concert series, and the GOCAA virtual lecture-recital series in the USA and China. Concurrently, she was invited as one of the guest artists and youth piano juries at the 1st Manhaville International Piano Competition and Festival in New York. She presented virtual lectures and concerts about "The Art of Collaboration in Piano Duo" with her piano duo partner and husband, Mr. Wenting Yu. Last summer, Ms. Liu was selected as one of the eight promising featured pianists for the festival of Fontainebleau Schools (Conservatoire Américain de Fontainebleau) with a full scholarship and stipend in Fontainebleau, France. She will join the next season of the piano solo and four hands concert series in France 2022. In May 2019, Ms. Liu was invited by the Chinese Consul General Amb. Huang Ping and his wife, Mme. Zhang Aiping, to perform a piano Duo/Solo concert at the Consulate General of the People's Republic of China in New York City. Ms. Liu won the first prize in the Young Artist and Senior Piano Duo Divisions of the Golden Classical Music Award Competition in November 2018. Meanwhile, she has been invited to perform the winner's recital in Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall as her Solo and Duo Carnegie debut in October and November 2018. In December 2018, Ms. Liu appeared again at Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall at the Closing Ceremony of the "2018 Mannes Sounds Festival" as a featured artist.    

Since 2016, Ms. Liu has performed throughout premier venues in New York City as a featured pianist at the Mannes Sounds Festival and Mannes Piano Cantabile concert series, including the Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall, Steinway Hall, The Frick Collection, Consulate General of the People's Republic of China in New York, German Consulate General in New York, Bohemian National Hall, Metropolitan Club, House of Redeemer in New York City and many others. Ms. Liu is also a resident artist at the Young Musician Forum concert series in Schenectady and Classical Music at the American Yacht Club in New York.    

Ms. Liu has been admitted to international music festivals: "21st International Keyboard Institute & Festival" in New York, 2019, "Miami International Music Festival" in 2018, "Beijing International Music Festival and Academy" in 2017, the "Eastern Music Festival" in 2016, the "Mostly American Music Festival" in Lancaster, Ohio in 2014, performing with All-State Orchestra at the OHIO Columbus Conventional Art Center in 2015 and the "NOW Festival" in 2013. Ms. Liu leads the concert series for Youth at the Consulate General of the People's Republic of China in New York City. Ms. At the same time, Liu has been selected to perform in the Masterclasses for Eteri Andjaparidze, Yoshie Akimoto, Malcolm Bilson, Jerome Lowenthal, Michael Lewin, Marc Silverman, Douglas Humphreys, Boaz Sharon, Nelita True, Christopher Fischer, Charles Dimaras, Danwen Wei, Fang Zhang, Robert Shanon, Inessa Zaretsky, etc.

Ms. Liu is a prize winner in many national and international competitions. She received the First Prize of the Young Artist, Advanced Baroque, and Advanced Beethoven Categories in the "23rd American International Music Open Competition" in Oakland, California, in 2015. Meanwhile, she received one of seven National Outstanding Artist Awards at the winner's award ceremony. Ms. Liu was also awarded the Third Prize at the 2015 "Women in Music Columbus Music Auditions." Ms. Liu was twice nominated as an Honorable Mention recipient at the "Music Teacher National Association State Competition" in the USA. Other awards included First Prize in the 2013 "Ohio State Graves Piano-Organ Competition" finalist in the 2011 "Oberlin International Piano Competition," and First prize at the 2010 "Asia Steinway Young Artist Piano Competition." Ms. Liu achieved significant accomplishments and was the First and Second prize winner in the 2010 "Asia/Schumann International Piano Competition" and Second Prize in the 2010 "Hong Kong Piano Open Competition."  

Ms. Liu received a Bachelor of Music Degree with cum laude from the Capital University in Columbus, Ohio in 2016, where she studied with Chinese-American Pianist Dr. Tianshu Wang. Capital University awarded Ms. Liu the Global Ambassador Award full Scholarships and a twice-winning outstanding keyboard department student. During her years in Ohio, Ms. Liu has performed Mozart Piano Concerto K.466 with Capital University Orchestra under the baton of Grammy Award nominee conductor William Boggs and the Rachmaninoff Piano Concerto No.2 with Barry E. Kopetz. She has been featured soloist multiple times at the "Now Festival" for commissioning new music with Orchestra and Symphonic Band and the Lancaster Mostly American Festival.

Ms. Liu holds both a Professional Studies Diploma (PDPL) and a Master of Music Degree from the Mannes School of Music of New School. She studied under Bulgarian-American pianist Pavlina Dokovska and Serbian-American concert pianist and pedagogue Dr. Vladimir Valjarevic. Ms. Liu was the recipient of the President's Scholarship, Supplemental Scholarship for Graduate Students, and Schoenberg Pianist Scholarship.    

Ms. Liu has been a KNS artist since 2020. Her first solo album will feature female composers from the eighteenth to the twentieth centuries under the label of KNS Classical. In 2021, Ms. Liu joined as a visiting piano teacher and piano pedagogy fellow member at IPPA (International Piano Pedagogy Association). She is an international youth piano jury at Music Star Award International Music Competition in Europe.
