Piano / Group Piano

Dmitry Nikolaev was born in Saint Petersburg, Russia. At the age of five he began to play the piano. By the time he was eight years-old, he had won his first piano competition. The five years following that achievement, he went on to win over thirty regional young pianist competitions.


When Dmitry was thirteen years-old, he had his first solo performance with an orchestra. It was no surprise that at the age of sixteen he was accepted to Rimsky-Korsakov College of Music without hesitation. After graduating the College with a bachelor’s degree, Mr. Nikolaev proceeded to study at The Rimsky-Korsakov St. Petersburg State Conservatory, followed by studies at Herzen State Pedagogical University. He studied under guidance of such masters as Pavel Egorov, Vladimir Gurevich, and Nina Lebedeva. As a result of the years of education at the aforementioned schools, Dmitry is now a Master of Arts in Piano performance and hold a Ph.D. in Music Art Appreciation and History.


In 2008, Dmitry came to the United States to study under the guidance of Nina Lelchuk at the Aaron Copland School of Music and received his second Master’s of Arts in Piano Performance degree in 2011. He has taken Master Classes with Mykola Suk, Eteri Andjaparidze, Eduard Zilberkant, Joaquin  Achucarro.


During his university years, Mr. Nikolaev gave many performances as a chamber pianist and a soloist and worked as an organist in different churches. He played in many cities in Russia, Ukraine, Romania, Poland and England. Currently, Dmitry is focused on his career as a piano teacher; he enjoys working with all age groups and has a lot of success working with children.
