Martin James

Guitar / Bass / Ukulele

Martin started playing piano at 10, studying for two years with his classically trained aunt. He made great strides in reading and technical proficiency within that short study period. Not long afterward, he gravitated to his true love of studying, playing, performing, and composing on guitar.

While maintaining his piano skills mainly for composition, he devoted countless hours to unlocking the potential of expression on guitar. Martin later studied theory and music studies in high school and at Berklee College of Music and William Patterson University.

He has been playing and performing guitar professionally in various cover and original ensembles since he was 17. At one point playing live on WNEW FM Live at the Hard Rock Cafe and opened up for Peter Frampton.

Additionally, during his latest original project, Martin garnered serious interest from Bill Aucoin, legendary manager of the world-famous rock band Kiss.

Among some of his philosophies regarding being a musician/teacher:

“I love playing music because it is a global language of expression that I feel privileged to be a part of.”

“I love teaching because I enjoy communicating the many positive attributes of musical expression.”

“Everyone comes to the table for different reasons, with varying aspirations and experience levels. I seek to be the optimal universal interface for every student so that the learning experience is always positive, engaging, and as rewarding as possible.”
