Piano / Group Piano

Catherine Bobbs has been teaching and performing for that past 40 years in the cities of Los Angeles, Cleveland, and Houston. Over those 40 years, she has taught at Colburn and Oberlin Conservatories where her students were consistently top award winners in local and national competitions. Catherine’s students have soloed with major and local orchestras, have been on the “From the Top” program, and have been accepted into major conservatories.

An accomplished accompanist, Catherine was the staff accompanist for Rice University where she accompanied the violin and cello students of the university.  A UCLA graduate in piano performance, Ms. Bobbs holds a Master of Fine Arts as well as a Master in Piano Pedagogy.

Catherine is passionate about teaching young people the beauty and personal enrichment of music. Her teaching philosophy is that introducing the classical literature at an early stage in the learning process keeps the students motivated and inspired as well helping to accelerate the progress of the students. Jazz and contemporary music repertoire is also an important factor in keeping children interested in their piano studies. As a mother of 8 children herself and a teacher for the past 40 years, Catherine has a unique understanding of how young people learn. She strives to connect to each young student. She has recently moved to the east coast to facilitate her youngest daughter’s attendance at the precollege program offered at Juilliard; she is looking forward to being a part of the Melody Institute of Music and Art team.
