Elise Kallah

Piano / Piano Group

Elise Kallah is a pianist, piano teacher, composer, and choir leader. She began learning to play piano at the age of eight; her achievements allowed her to receive honors certificates from professional pianists and a bachelor’s degree in classical piano studies when she continued her piano education into higher learning. Because of this, she is highly experienced in teaching classical piano music such as sonatas, Bach inventions, preludes, and fugues.

Ms. Kallah has been teaching piano for 17 years, during which time she has also achieved performing in solo concerts. She began teaching at the Mor Ephrem Music Center for many years and started work with Stringing With Angela Music School and has not looked back since. Professor Marina Mdivani of McGill University also highly recommends Ms. Elise as a teacher. Her passion for teaching students of various ages has led her to deliver the information needed to learn the instrument in multiple fun ways; she has found that this enriching way of teaching has helped solidify an interest in further piano study.

Elise believes that “learning and teaching are critical pursuits with which people interact. Research shows music develops any young mind, supports the brain in emotional, academic, spiritual, and physical activities. A music teacher should be motivated to aid every student to learn not only music, but creativity, intellectual skills, and more. Music is important for the development of any kids’ minds.”

As a teacher, she instructs her students by emphasizing certain aspects of teaching such as performance, technique, posture, reading, and understanding the elements of any song. Her method is to make students feel comfortable and excited about learning, giving them a fun and enriching environment and ultimately making the students want to return for more lessons. Elise believes that if students feel like the class is fun, they gain a confident personality and further enjoy learning to play. She also encourages students to perform in piano recitals; her goal in promoting performance is to assist students in piquing their curiosity, enjoyment, and, most importantly, self-expression in music. Having performed in solo concerts and concerts in which she was accompanied by violin and cello, she feels that performance can immensely build up a student’s musical expression. This applies to all of her students, whether they are beginners, intermediate, or advanced in their studies.
