William Oh

Violin

Violinist William Oh is a versatile musician equally at home performing orchestral, chamber, and solo repertoire including classical, 20th Century, contemporary, and jazz. He has been the Concertmaster of several orchestras and ensembles and, as a dedicated chamber musician, he collaborates with instruments and vocalists, performing a wide range of repertoire from string quartets to piano and vocal ensemble pieces.

William holds a Bachelor of Music from Emerson College and an Undergraduate Performance Diploma from Bard College’s Longy School of Music, as well as a Master Degree from the Mannes College of Music. He currently studies as a Doctor of Musical Arts degree candidate at Rutgers University with Todd Phillips. His previous teachers include Sally Thomas, Yura Lee, Malcolm Lowe, and Tiberius Klausner.

As a teacher, Mr. Oh does not believe in a one-size-fits-all approach. He believe a teacher should be someone who not only teaches technique, but also seeks to maximize their students’ potential by tailoring their program to the students’ specific needs. Through specific study and positive reinforcement, students will learn the three main principles of violin playing: tone, pitch, and rhythm. These principals will help the student build a solid technical base which will serve the student well for their future playing. Throughout the learning process, William believe students must feel inspired and motivated in order to succeed.
